Sisters and Brothers,
Welcome to the Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council’s new website. Over the coming months, we’ll be testing some of the features of the site and exploring social media. Soon you’ll see regular blog posts from Labour Council executive members and committee chairs, new online actions, increased Twitter and Facebook use, and more. Check back regularly to see what’s new!
Our goal is to create a space on the web for discussion, debate and action on workers’ priorities. Too often our movement jumps from one crisis to another, whether it is strikes, lock-outs or other difficult workplace issues. We rarely have opportunities to go in-depth into political, economic and social issues affecting our lives, our members lives and our communities. We also rarely have chance to talk about strategies and ideas on how to build the labour movement and build workers power. Hopefully this new website will serve as a modest contribution to starting some of these conversations and (re)building a united, militant labour movement in Nova Scotia.
I want to give a shout out and special thank you to Kevin Russell, our web and graphics designer. Kevin has made this project a reality for the Labour Council after years of indecision around online issues. Thanks Kevin.
A big thanks also to Tony Tracy at the Canadian Labour Congress for his assistance and advice on this project. Finally, thanks to executive members, labour council delegates and others who provide feedback and comments in the design process. We will look forward to hearing more feedback once the site goes live.
